You can do both input and output at the same time, as long as they are at the same bit depth. You might check the alsamixer to make sure that the input channel volume is not turned down.
When you tell the player to play the streamer url, if the player is showing the time elapsing (For longer than a minute), then the streaming system is sending data to LMS......its just that its blank data.
