My 2 cents -

I have LMS on a pi3b+ in a remote area with frequent power failures
(tall trees + high winds), maybe 12 per year.

I have a 2TB HDD attached for my library. At first, I chose to move
cache and prefs to the HDD when I was building the pcp (I followed the
instructions). I experienced the same as you power failure, lms bricked,
shutdown everything, startup, repeat, sometimes I needed to rebuild
pcp/LMS.

After a few times I realized what was happening is that pcp was "losing"
the mounted HDD, and since the LMS prefs and cache weren't on it, LMS
would not start. Recovery got easier, go into pcp, unmount, then remount
the HDD, fixed.

I then moved cache and prefs back to the SD. In fact @Paul- recommended
I use a 3rd partition on the SD for cache and prefs. The thought being
that perhaps if the power cut occurred during SD read/write, if there is
to be harm, it might not be to the pcp partitions, allowing pcp to boot.

Since that time, I have survived maybe 3 years of power cuts, and the
worst I have had to do is reboot pcp**

Two other thoughts:
1) As @ktp mentioned, backup :)
2) ** Note that sometimes the cut isn't the only issue, the restore can
cause problems as well. On boot, pcp boots quick, and it looking for the
internet for NTP (time). If it doesn't see it, it moves on. My ISP modem
boots very slow, so it is never there in time. What happens is some time
based functions of LMS can get affected. For example, Radio Paradise
FLAC (interactive and regular) streams use this info, so they won't
work. I have read the same is true with Spotty, don't use it.

The other thing is the screen saver clock on my touch goes black (no
clock). Its kind of funny as I use this (black screen) and an indicator
that the power was out when I was gone :)
