Originally, most machines, just had to disconnect the speaker or mic 
plug it the back for X to recognize them. The real problem seems to have 
stared with 10.1 on my 7300 for me, the trick doesn't work with my 
speakers any more, but I haven't tried the mic. My solution is going to 
buy Griffin's PowerWave. I'm sure the USB audio would solve the problem 
for speakers and a mic.

Give Ryan time and he will code around the problem.
