Lee, The CD drive termination sounds functional as is (you can boot from CD, correct?). My 7600 required an OS X install partition of 8GB or less in order for the partition to be recognized as a valid target for the install. I would boot from a System Install CD (maybe use OS 9 for this part), and use Apple's Disk Utility to partition the disk with first partition as 8GB HFS+ Extended, the rest however you want. Then boot from your Jaguar installer disk, install X to the small partition, and the rest should go smoothly. Hope this helps...
