Hey Wilton,
is this during the boot process?
My Umax S900 starts up with a black and white grid, a bunch of 
gobbledy-gook scrolls by (can't read any of it), and my screen is at 
320x240, but once it finishes  booting, it works fine.

As long as it boots into OS X with my millions of colors at 1024x768, I 
don't really mind the b&w checkerboard.
