If you have the full chart of jumper settings you could set your G4 to
run at apox the speed of your G3/266 ! This might help test the ram
possible issue. For example you could run the G4 at settings:
1,2,4,6,7,8,10,11
which would give you a bus of 50mhz but a cpu of 275mhz
2,6.7,10 would give you 270mhz but a bus of 45mhz.
Even slower settings could be tried. Both my G3 300 and G3 500 would
run fine at slow speeds but why (other then for testing)when the faster
speeds work so well ;-)
