No such issue with SCSI drives ! In fact the only machine which Apple
supports in OSX that has this issue is the Beige G3 using on board IDE.
Many of us are using ATA PCI cards so we can use the cheap IDE drives.
ATA cards often show the IDE hard drives hooked to them as SCSI drives.
Some show the drives as IDE drives in OSX and these setups do have the
first 8gb issue. The Sonnet/Acard ATA /66 is one card that shows the
drives as SCSI and so doesn't have the issue. I think this is true of
all Acard ATA cards. Sonnet cards are made by both Acard and
Promise/VST the latter are the ones with the first 8gb issue. (however
these cards seem to work better with CDRW burners)
If at all possible I would go with using Apple Drive setup to format
your drives. Less issues over the long haul. There are a very few
drives that you will need to use Intech's harddrive speedtools with. My
PowerTower machine came with IBM and Seagate SCIS drives formated with
FWB. I had no problems using Apple Drive setup with those drives. Best
of luck Will S
