i think with normal wood smoke, the main problem would be small particles and oils getting into hard drives and on to cd rom and floppy heads. it might also interfere with connections on the board at connectors, a good take apart, soap and water wash, rinse with distilled water then everclear and dry for a day or two over a heat vent. ash would be corrosive over time if it absorbed water and could damage the boards and solder connections, but again washing it off should solve that in most cases. i'd say clean one of the machines thoroughly and try it with new drives that weren't exposed to the smoke and go from there. you might be able to clean cd rom or floppy drives as well. if you disassemble and clean the power supply, be very, very sure that it's completely dry, probably best to just blow that out with compressed air, there are also sometimes capacitors that stay charged that can be dangerous, though usually unplugging it and turning it on will make it drain them down, usually, be careful!
