Computing is less about hardware and operating systems and more about getting the tasks done that you want or need to get done. I installed OS X 10.1.5 on a 7500 with a 200MHz 604 and on an 8600 with a 300MHz processor. It ran well enough for me to considered it a productive system. The problem I ran into was that my scanner didn't scan, my printer didn't print, and my AV did nothing. And for me that was really what made OS X more of a demonstration, proof of concept, thing than a useful computer. And since upgrade items would not help my scanner, printer and AV it just does not seem worthwhile to upgrade the machine. But I do love demonstrations and proof of concept and there is much to enjoy in OS X. I have waited many years for Apple to start doing the things OS X is doing. Useful configurable global services are a delight. Stable background tasks that can not and do not endanger system stability are long over due. There is better data utilization across multiple applications, and iTunes, iPhoto etc are unique and workable solutions for somewhat complex organizational tasks. And much of this very useful even at slower speeds. In the CorelDraw newsgroup a fellow was being chided for moving from Intel hardware to Apple. He was asked "Well isn't that Mac much slower than your old 2 gig Pentium?" He replied by saying, "Yes it is much slower, but in a way that is impossible to really describe, you find that with OS X speed is just not an issue." That is an accurate description of a multithreaded system. The task that needs the resources gets the resources. That is very much the situation with OS X on 604 processors. Yes you are well aware that your system is slow, yet for the specific given task you are working at it seems fast enough at that moment. bill -- Unsupported OS X is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> Support Low End Mac <http://lowendmac.com/lists/support.html> Unsupported OS X list info <http://lowendmac.com/lists/unsupported.html> --> AOL users, remove "mailto:" Send list messages to: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To unsubscribe, email: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> For digest mode, email: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subscription questions: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Archive <http://www.mail-archive.com/unsupportedosx%40mail.maclaunch.com/> Using a Mac?
