Hi,
In the last couple of days I have been trying to install 10.1 on a 9600er
(sonnet g3/400 768mb (6x128) and 6 PCI cards)

As I got a kernel panic after rebooting (before the actual installation) I
took out all the pci cards I could do without and still got the panic
state.
Then, I tried to install 10.1 on a umax storm (S900 newertech G3/250) with
normal SCSI HD's (2 Gb OS 9.1, 4 Gb OS 10.1) without success (black screen
even in verbose mode) Eventually I tried to install it on a plain 8500
(Phase5 G3/275) and was successful.

With me, the graphic cards seemed to be causing the problems.

8500: internal graphic, no problem
s900: TT128, no more movement after the apple appears
: MP520 4 Mb (villagetronic), black screen even in verbose mode
9600: Formac Proformance 80, kernel panic
: Xclaim 3D (ATI), works slow but ok

I took the (external) HD with OS 10.1 which I installed with the 8500 and
attached it to the 9600 and had the same experiences with the different
cards as I had when I tried to install it from the CD. After putting the
right graphic card in, all went well, and OS 10.1 had no problems whatsoever
recognising the completely different hardware.

Just for the record:

9600 (from top to bottom)
Acard 6260 with 20 Gb, CD-ROM and CD-RW
Compatibility Card (Pentium 166 and +64 Mb)
Xclaim 3D
Asante 10/100
Miro DC30 video card
USB Card

And although OS 10.1 doesn't work with all the cards (Comp. Card, DC 30) it
doesn't really mind them either.

Oops, almost forgot, I use XPostFacto 2.2.5, and no commercial software ...
And have only had one crash until now, probably caused by overheating)

Hoping this is of any help to anybody,

Regards,
Niels Ommering
