Actually you might have to make an 8 GB partition. If your ATA Drive shows up as a SCSI drive in Apple System Profiler you don't have to bother partitioning. If it shows up as an IDE Drive then you should probably partition it. I'm not sure if it's required but I remember reading something about that. Also what version of SoftRaid are you using. Only the newest version works with OS X.
