No, that is not true. OS X is perfectly capable of communicating with a printer via the serial cable. My Apple Stylewriter II is printing fine in Jaguar on a Umax c600/Apus 3000. You have to make some modifications, though.

Here's the specifics:
I have a 7300/200, running OS X 10.1.5 and 9.1 via XPF. According to Apple, OS X comes with drivers for this printer (and I checked, they're in there). OK, fine. However, OWC's website for XPostFacto says that "Serial ports work, except for serial printers". I don't know if this info is out of date, like so much info on the Internet.
Does anyone have any experience with getting a serial printer to work under OS X with XPF, and especially this (or any Apple) printer??
