I prefer lists on which there are no discussions for fear that the questions prompting conversation might be seen as ignorant.

Now a couple thoughts without the sarcasm. I am often frustrated by all the LEM Lists and my frustration comes from this very point. It has become the case that many people do not do any research at even the lowest level before e-mailing the list. Someone might ask "is my Mac supported under Mac OS X?" Well, Apple has a whole page just detailing that, perhaps you should look ...

On the other hand if we react too harshly to such lowball questions many people will simply be scared off from participating at all.

I would prefer to stop receiving so many "why can't you spend 3-7 minutes and look up the complete and accurate answer yourself" type questions. But I also do not wish to belong to a bunch of e-mail lists where there is no conversation or where anything but the most elite question receives a harsh reply.

So as Paul Simon said on the Dick Cavett Show years ago, "I was stuck, everywhere I went took me somewhere I didn't want to be."

Anyone have an answer?

David

Short answer: OS 10.3 will not be supported by Apple on Beige G3s. If we are to run OS 10.3 on those and older machines, someone needs to write a hack to enable our machines to install it. Ryan Rempel writes XPostFacto to do this and has said that he is working on a version for 10.3. If/when it is done, we will all benefit and many thanks go to him for his efforts! He deserves nothing but praise for his efforts and accomplishments.

Re: Snotty responses-- everyone has done them once in a while, myself a few times back in the (my) dark ages of 1994-1995 on Usenet. As people get older they learn to control their knee-jerk reactions (I did) and one would assume this will apply in time to certain posters here and everywhere.
