The processors in PCI macs aren't much like PCI cards either, except for
the Sonnet Crescendo/7200 which actually goes in a PCI slot.

My Crescendo is smaller than a Pentium /// "slot" processor.

Well, the pentium multi-chip modules, yes, but if I go out and get an
AMD processor what I get is a chip in a ceramic carrier, not a PCB with
a bunch of cache and a chip on it.

I was under the impression that the XLR8 card basically emulated the Beige
ZIF socket.
