From what you're saying, my intention to make this here 9500 perform better by installing a Tempo Trio and a pair of ATA 133 drives may be thwarted by the load the disks place on the cpu - by implication through the PCI bus.
Sure the 9500 has a semi-split PCI bus, so maybe things won't be too bad with the Tempo Trio in one half and the ATI 7000 ME in the other half. I don't need Fast Ethernet in this box right now; but I was hoping to pass some audio over the bus as well.
Anyone got recommendations for card and slot order in the 9500?
Maybe I should be thinking of running big SCSI disks after all...

True, however, the 2930CU card plays happily with OS X and Panther. I've been running one in my MDD dual G4 with a number of SCSI devices and it's never had a hiccup.Alas, yes. I had a bunch of Adaptec 2940 cards that I could flash with the Mac firmware, unfortunately they're not supported under OS X.
