Hello all. I'm wondering this: I have a Beige G3 with Panther installed and XPF and have the drive divided into 2 partitions. I may be getting ahold of a Blue and White G3. What would I need to do to move this hard drive to the BW and be able to use it as it is? Do I disable XPF somehow?
On a different note:
I read that Sonnets G4 800 and 1ghz upgrade for the beige and blue and white require that the bus speed in the BW be lowered to 66mhz. Given that that's the speed of the system bus in the beige, would I gain much in performance if I installed the processor and moved all my components over to the BW (assuming I can fix this computer) other than the faster bus speeds of the PCI slots? Would the 100 mhz bus of the B&W ever benefit the computer if it has been lowered to 66 for compatibility with the G4 upgrade? Sorry if this is too off topic. It's sort of a compare and contrast question pertaining to a supported machine vs. an unsupported one. Maybe somebody has enough theoretical knowledge for a quick answer.
Thanks.
I think you might be wrong re: 66mhz speed lowering in B&W. I've just had a quick look a datasheet from Sonnet and it makes no reference to it
However a note does reads as follows: Note: 700 MHz and 1.0 GHz upgrades for Blue & White G3 must be Part No. EG4-###-1M-U. 700 MHz and 1.0 GHz upgrades without the "U" are only compatible with Beige G3 models"
Sonnets long term mission statements has always been" No switches, no control panels - simply fast" so again having to mess with MOBO Jumper block seems odd - good way here to squeeze another 50mhz (I got 100 out of B&W 350 - now running for over 18mths) - check out www.xlr8yourmac.com for details on jumper block settings.
my 2c
