> It definitely looks like the G4 500 gives by far the most for your
money, but I may be getting my hands on the sonnett G4 1ghz for a
ridiculous price. I won't know until next week if it's the version
that's compatible with both the beige G3 and the BW.

I just picked up OWC's new $150 G4/"533", for me Beige G3. I'm running it at 466: it's really a 450 and I'm not all that into overclocking... besides, at 533 you have to run the cache at 2.5:1 or 213 MHz... I suspect that overall system performance at 500 (250 MHz cache) or even 466 (233 MHz cache) may actually be better.

It's a kick in the pants, at least once I got the cache turned on.

In general, results from real world use indicate that faster CPU MHz overcomes a slightly slower cache. Benchmarks tend to favor the higher cache speed/lower CPU speed. I'd run it at 500/250 (if the L2 can take it) or 533/217 over 466/233.

MacBench 5 CPU:

466/233: 1560
500/250: 1650
533/217: 1630
550/220: 1700 (in a Blue & White)
