Hi Some more details...
The Asante card is set to auto and goes to a 3com 8 port 10/100 switch The 3com connects to a netgear 8 port 10/100 switch which has the airport extreme and G4/AGP. I tried connecting the server directly to the Powerbook, where you can force speed/duplex settings. 10M full - ok 100M full - slower 100M half - glacial Booting the G4/AGP into OS9 I was able to run some old network tools and see that at 100M there were bouts of packet retransmission (about 1% every second or two) I also booted into OS9 on the 9600 and even connecting via AppleTalk (connect via TCP/IP being greyed out) was able to get a fairly fast transfer (lights on the card and switch agreeing that it was at 100M) All other machines (OS8, 9, 10.2, 10.3) work fine on both switches -- even my old Pismo laptop with standard airport gets better xfer rates to the server over airport than direct connection. bye for now Keith Cooper Northlight Images http://northlight-images.co.uk -- Unsupported OS X is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> Support Low End Mac <http://lowendmac.com/lists/support.html> Unsupported OS X list info <http://lowendmac.com/lists/unsupported.html> --> AOL users, remove "mailto:" Send list messages to: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To unsubscribe, email: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> For digest mode, email: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subscription questions: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Archive <http://www.mail-archive.com/unsupportedosx%40mail.maclaunch.com/> Using a Mac?
