I have successfully flashed one 2940, and failed with two others. Since
it's not fully supported in X (it doesn't wake after sleep, for example,
and it's not bootable) I wouldn't get my hopes up.
On my AVA-2930 I had Sleep set to 'never' so I don't know about this issue. In looking through the Adaptec extensions in the System>Library>Extensions file I see 290x-2930 and also 78xx but no 2940, so perhaps this is why my 2930 works better (I believe it is identified as a 7850 in Apple System Profiler, not a 2930?).
