I just use iMovie, and it runs it reasonably well with the 1ghz
upgrade--extremely well compared to before. I would use Final Cut
Express, but I don't think you can install it on a beige as it requires
AGP. You've enticed me to turn it on again, though. I'll do some tests
to see if I feel a slow down, or if the slow down is tolerable and worth
it considering the gains. Would you happen to know if iMovie and
QuickTime use open GL directly by the way? What about VLC? One of the
things my beige can do extremely well now is play video. I guess I
should be able to notice the difference right away. But I'm hardly ever
on my mac when I post here. Hope you all have a safe weekend.

When you say that the Radeon 7000 supports Quratz Extreme, you mean
through PCI Extreme, right?
Right.
And if I'm not mistaken, it's not a good
idea, or have you or others found that it doesn't affect their systems
after all on 33Mhz PCI.
It adds a fair bit of overhead to applications like video players that
aren't using OpenGL directly, but the improvement it gives to compositing
(menu display, window dragging and scrolling, etc) is phenomenal.
I've got it enabled on my Beige G3 (OWC G4/466) and I had it enabled
on my 7500 (Crescendo G3/400) before I switched my Radeon over to the
newer box. There's no way I'd turn it off again.
If I was doing video editing, I wouldn't use PCI Extreme, but then if I was
doing video editing I'd be saving up for a Quicksilver or better.
I'd also like to know more about the GPU in this card. It's only
got 16M of VRAM and it's only got a 64-bit data path. It may not
be much better than the Rage 128, and you can get that for $70 from
WeloveMacs.
