I have an 8600/G4 (OS 10.3.4) with a 17" monitor with a max resolution of 1024x768.

I purchased a Canon Powershot A75 digital camera. This is my first one.

I have taken a few indoor pictures for testing. The camera connects easily and I can import photos from several programs including iPhoto and Graphic Converter.

The problem is that almost all of them show a horizontal banding. The effect is like having a venetian blind partially open. It is especially noticeable on solid backgrounds such as painted walls. It doesn't matter which program I use to do the import. They all do it though the actual effect varies.

In iPhoto (v2.0) it is very obvious in edit mode. In running a slideshow or printing (in B&W to a LW12/640PS) it's not so noticeable. If I export the photo and view it in Preview, it looks pretty good until I zoom in and then the banding starts to show.

Since this is new to me, I don't really know what to expect. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

thanks, jim
