I just got past the "it's unsupported!" thing and tried using XPostFacto3.0b8 to install Panther (7b85) on my 266 MHz PDQ (Sep '98) G3 PowerBook on top of 10.2.8. I've been running 10.0 thru 10.2.8 on this machine as they came out.

The experience was totally painless, and I've now used Software Update to get to 10.3.5. If there's anything that doesn't work then I haven't found it yet.

Even better, things now have much more *snap* to the, even on this slow machine. Mail is almost a pleasure to use. The 10.2 Mail was a dog. Terminal windows open to a prompt much faster.

I'm used to fast machines -- I have an Athlon 3200+ running Linux next to this PowerBook, and program on a dual 2.0 G5 at work -- but with Panther on it the PDQ is perfectly fine for all the light duty stuff I do every day -- I'm even tempted to go out and spend money on a new battery for it now.

Thanks, Ryan.
