BeOS would be a good choice to load on the 9600 with dual cpus. I run
BeOS 5.03 Pro on my Daystar Genesis MP800+. Be is pretty good on my
BeBox (dual 603e-133) but positively screams on the Genesis. It was
pretty snappy with a MP528 card installed. Since the 9600 and the
Daystars are so similar in design, it would be a breeze to install. The
biggest issue with Be on a PPC box is lack of precompiled software.
Most things these days are compiled for x86.

Can't seem to dig up *any* positive info that SMP is
supported in either OS X or any current distro of
Linux. What a bummer. I'd really like to find a
way
to let the 200MP stretch its legs, so to speak.
Wonder if you could coax BeOS to boot on it?

Now *there's* an idea! I remember briefly toying with
BeOS Preview Release 4.5 shortly after I got my NEW
PowerCenter 150MT. BeOS was free to Power Computing
owners back in '97-'98. I was a total 'puter newbie
at the time and didn't realize I might wanna save an
installer disk image 8^(
The 9600/200MP *IS* listed as BeOS-compatible here:

Bet it would be pretty snappy, too. Might just pick
up a copy soon and give it a test spin....
