sorry for the incomplete description, it is a G3/233 wallstreet, and it does have L2 cache (512k). i have downloaded xpostfacto and will attempt to install panther. but i only have 96MB of RAM, so i guess i will have to upgrade that first (unless i can use virtual memory?) i don't really care about speed, i just want to go thru the install on an apple machine before i try the more frightful sounding panther install on an older upgraded clone. i also just want to familiarize myself with OSX, because i haven't really had the opportunity to use it before.

what about the format of the HD? does it matter if it's HFS or HFS+?

TIA,

john

There was a model with a 233 that had an L2 cache as well as the model that did not.

What do you mean by stock?

Early WallStreets had 233 MHz cpus, no L2 cache. For OS X that's slow. Improved models have 266 or faster, with L2 cache. Makes a lot of difference.
