Well, AppleTalk is AppleTalk, not TCP/IP. So I guess you mean it only
does AFP over TCP/IP, not AFP over AT. Which would explain my
problem, and would be the kind of Tiger small print I haven't yet
spotted.

vintage AFP on Quadras and similar systems.
I don't recall this being a problem with Jag and Pan connecting to
old AFP file shares, It's a nuisance, but not a show-stopper.
