Brad,
The quote you read was a small part of a much
longer question I posted that has bounced around this
list for awhile, and if I saw it in its present form
I'd be curious too.
The original question had to do with how you fix
permissions after a G3 Beige install of Panther using
XPostFacto. Some folks don't think it's something
that needs doing anyway, so the point of the B&W
statement (in its original form) was that EVEN on a
regular B&W Panther install (not using XPF), I've had
to do this a number of times to get it back to boot
normally. Hence, on a Beige with XPF is that even
going to work?
On top of that, I saw a warning screen during a
previous XPostFacto install of Jaguar on a Beige that
was even having trouble with that kitty that said not
to use the install disk to fix permissions, only
XPostFacto. But NOBODY else has seen that! And so,
with garlic around my neck and a wooden stake gripped
tightly in my fist, I press forward...
BTW, I am taking Bruce's assertion that the B&W has
hardware problems seriously and trying to track down
what they might be. And I appreciate the fact that
questions posted are looked at so many times and from
so many different angles.
Brad, glad to meet ya. Hope this helps catch you up
to what this string was about... Better to ask and
learn than to do neither.
Peace
Jim
