That's right, if you have to make a comparison, which is undoubtedly one reason why the hi-end machines will be held off until 07. I think the problem is mostly about making delivery promises. PPC is, and has been, hanging Apple up.

What I was alluding to is that we will not likely see a G5 in a PowerBook anyway. The current units are too big and run too hot, and PPC has failed to come up with a solution for smaller machines.

Intel, however, can deliver very powerful chips in a timely manner. Although sans Altivec, if they are fast enough and can handle the load without overheating, they won't _need_ Altivec.

But B-model G5's have some definite advantages, one of which is the ability to handle, for all practical purposes, unlimited memory. The only reason the current G5 Macs can't take more than 8g RAM is because memory is slot-dependent, and no one is making multi-g RAM sticks right now (but that could change).
