That last is why I would never use an internal modem in any computer
anywhere in the midwest from the gulf coast to the canadian border.
Too many thunderstorms.
I had a lightning bolt hit the transmission lines near my house.
My UPS was full of spattered and condensed metal and my modem was
a paperweight, but no computers were damaged.
A good enough reason. But also, if you're living somewhere where ISDN
is an option, but broadband (ADSL, Cable) is not. ISDN is okay,
dial-up is slooow, compared to broadband. And for ISDN one needs an
external modem of some sort. Anbybody having any experience with
USB-to-Serial-converters? Or USB-to-Paralell for that matter? Curios
if I could get OSX to see my Apple LaserWriter with a
USB-to-parallel-thingy & a paralell pronter cable (LW select has a
paralell port thar works). A drag to have to make PDFs in X & then
reboot in OS9 to print...
