My 8500 and 9500 run nicely under Panther (thanks to XPF 4 and an ATI
Radeon 7000 Mac Edition video card). I'm sure a real G3 would be much
better ... bus speedwise. The 50 MHz bus is a bottleneck ... but its
all I can afford to work with at present. If your 8600 doesn;t wake up,
why not work on the 9500? You can move any upgrades to it from the
8600, I think.

Pardon me for this comment, not helping with the OSX-problem on the
9500: Won't the necessarily slow bus speed on the 9500 make it a tad
slow for OSX? My "pure" G3 is not a racer with panther, and it is a
REAL G3 (althought of the gray desktop unsupported type)?
I have a 9500 sitting around. Cool box, but damn noisy and a nightmare
to get at the disk in front and to change the PRAM battery....
