FYI: It now appears to work pretty well, thanks to install & uninstall of ESP-print. Somehow that program must have "awoken" some hidden part of OSX (OSX is pretty much black magic to me, anyway). So if I stick to PDFs & simpe text docks, it prints OK on the Laserwriter. Forget about Photoshop, that just makes it sit there and blink forever (or as long as I care to wait). If nothing happens for a looonger time, I restart the Mac, & send a file to be printed. The previously spooled print will be there too, in the queue, and I can then trash the new & print the old. The Gimp-print didnt work, although it did have a thoroughly proper Apple-like installer (unlike the very PC-esque ESP-print). Typing lpinfo -v [return] in Terminal now yields (gives): ----------- network pap network socket direct bluetooth serial fax direct usb://Prolific%Technology%20Inc./IEE1284%20Controller?serial=0 direct usbtb://Prolific%Technology%20Inc./IEE1284%20Controller? network http network ipp network lpd direct usb://EPSON/Stylus%20Color%2020740?serial=0 direct usbtb://EPSON/Stylus%20Color%2020740?serial=04800010100 direct usb direct usbtb network mnds --------------- So I guess that qualifies as a victory -Peter, Oslo
