my experience with XPF 4 is that it successfully overrules the OSX
installer's misguided beliefs about 8 GB partitions. Written from
9650+Sonnet G4 800+Sonnet Tempo Trio with PATA+Maxtor 120 GB IDE
drive+Panther. However - there may be some limitations about
masters-only being bootable on the IDE buses. May depend on card.
You have a lot of drives on a lot of buses. Having been burned many
times by complexity, I'd recommend unsupported users to follow KISS.

i have a UMAX s900 with a Promise ATA66 card in slot #2, and a maxtor
120GB drive and an iomega 250zip on bus #1. i want to install OSX on
the box using xpostfacto. my question is this, IS this one of those
IDE controllers that requires a partition smaller than 8GB for the
OSX, or is this one of the controllers that does NOT impose that
restriction. if it is, i will just put OSX on the SCSI-3 HD.
i also have an adaptec 2940U2B controller in slot #1 w/ a quantum LVD
drive, USB, firewire, and ATI radeon 128 cards in slots 3-5
respectively; a sonnet G4/700 processor, two SCSI CD drives, and 1GB
of RAM. anyone see any other potential problems with putting OSX on
this box? os9.1 has been running just fine up 'til now.
thanks in advance,
