There's nothing wrong with wanting to make money.  Keep in mind that
you can sell your software and also have it be open source - you just
don't give out the source unless someone pays for it, and then you
make them sign a contract agreeing not to give/sell/transfer/etc. it
to anyone else.

If you want to make shrink-wrapped software, I recommend reading
articles by Joel Spolsky - http://www.joelonsoftware.com/ or picking
up his book, also called Joel on Software.  He's been running a
shrink-wrap software business in NYC for a long time and has some
great advice.
