The site is already running WordPress, so all the of features you mention are
already available. If P2 is a theme, then it could be installed. Are members of
the group interested in participating in a conversation on uphpuorg such as the
P2 WP theme provides? Of the hundreds of members that we have, only a small
portion participate socially (IRC, meetings, after-parties). Do we really need
another medium for communication or would it be better to just make it easier
to sign up and post to the mailing list (big form, right on home page) and chat
in the channel (web-based, right on home page)?

Another option would be to host the site on WordPress.com.  Using the

Great idea Joseph and i think that template is awesome!

I think shifting to wordpress.com would REALLY open some new doors for uphpu.

* ability to delegate to uphpu community members to manage categories that they
are personally interested in

* ability to have the community to post articles / comments to the UPHPU website

* and as you say the template itself encourages quick comments / posts

I think another part of the cause of the disuse of the website is that it's
really abstracted away from the uphpu individual.  there is no way for them to
get involved in helping to keep it up-to-date and take a personal interest.  a
step in this direction makes a lot of sense.

Of course, these are just suggestions, yield to the community, macnewbold et
al., to decide
