I've tried several RSS reader libraries for PHP. The only one I found that works 100% of the time is Zend_Feed_Reader<http://framework.zend.com/manual/1.12/en/zend.feed.reader.html>. There are so many funky nuances for RSS and Atom feeds across the Internet.
Our app has been using Zend_Feed_Reader on 1000+ RSS feeds for over a year now and not one parse error has popped up in the error logs. I first tried just using DOMDocument and 10% to 20% of feeds had unexpected elements and namespaces. Then I used SimplePie, added some fixes to it but still got errors on 3% to 5% of feeds around the Internet.
