I agree it is not ideal. Looking at the abi-compliance-checker code, the alternatives seem to be:
1) Store the dump as a zip file containing the single .abi file. 2) Store the dump as-is as a .abi file (but it's huge - 500k uncompressed versus 25k compressed). 3) Store binary library versions and their corresponding header files in the distribution file (doesn't require a dump, but an option I'd rather avoid :-) I'm not particularly happy with any of these personally.
