Your experience parallels mine. Over the last year I've been exporting data
for a few customers so they could import into other platforms. None of them
could pay the monthly fee to continue with their current custom stacks. One
client used Claude to write a custom web app and import his data. I was
impressed, I watched him do it over a zoom call.
Like you, my life has changed and I'm technically retired. I do miss the
old days though. We were an amazing and vibrant community.

I discussed that with several of my customers and all, really all, would
not accept such licensing. They were even surprised about that requirement
because they never heard of any other development tool requiring this.
Anyway, my life changed significantly last year, so I am currently setting
different priorities anyway.
