Your timetable may be a little out.  4.6 was  out near the end of March, 4.6.1 
in May, 4.6.2 in June, 4.6.3 in July, 4.6.4 in September, and 5.0 in October. 
Each of those had  several test builds that you could have access to if you had 
one of the more costly deals with LiveCode, and if you're urgently trying to 
solve a problem you could justify the cost. If you mainly want to take the 
latest features as the stable version is released, then it's averaging a lot 
quicker than "umpteen months" between versions.
