I don't mind filing the Bugzilla report. It may take a while to get addressed, but filing the report is the first step. It may help speed things along if you'd pass along the API call so I can add it.
It looks like the call:
MCDoAction(mc, mcActionSetKeysEnabled, (void *)False);
will disable all keyboard events for a movie. I just tested this with a VR and it effectively stopped the SHIFT and CONTROL keys from zooming in/out.
