The term installation really applies more to Windows systems than to Macintosh. On Windows, there are certain registry files that need to be adjusted or set for the files being installed. Sometimes files need to be installed in different locations. One of my apps installs fonts in the fonts folder, the application in the program files folder, a desktop icon in the desktop folder, and the aliases in the start program files folder. Because the process is more complex than just coping an single application file to the desktop, I suppose installation better covers the whole process.
