Just installed a demo version of FileMaker pro 5.5., and got it to work.
Here's how:

1) I opened the ODBC Control Panel and clicked to the user DSN tab.
2) Then I clicked on the 'Add' button. I was prompted to choose a
driver..luckily the demo version installed the drivers, so I chose
FileMaker 3.51 FileMaker Pro PPC. Then clicked on Finish.
3) Another dialog opened up..For the datasource name I entered
myfilemaker (but you can choose anything you want). I left description
empty. I did not click use remote connection..because I wanted to access
my local database..but I guess you would choose this to access a remote
database and enter an IP or url.
4) Ok now with the DSN set up and listed under 'User Data Sources' I
closed the ODBC Data Source Administrator dialog by clicking OK.
5) Then I opened filemaker and choose 'new database' from the file
menu..and created my database and named it mydatabase
6) With the database open..I then opened revolution and opened the
database manager stack. I entered 'myfilemaker' as the host name and a
space for everything else (because that info are not needed). Then I
clicked on 'New Connection to database', and an SQL dialog opened up.
7) I then entered 'select * from mydatabase' and it didn't work..giving
me some stupid invalid database message. After a little cursing (Ok, a
lot) I went back into filemaker and choose sharing from the file menu. I
then checked 'Local Data Access Companion', and tried again in Revolution
and it worked, returning all the rows in mydatabase!

Note the database needs to be open in filemaker for this to work
apparently. I guess you can play with Single User and multi-User sharing
from the file sharing dialog if you want to share over a network, ect.
The tutorial said check the manual for more info on using ODBC with
filemaker(unfortunately I couldn't find a PDF version of the manual
anywhere for download)..I suggest you do that. My guess is it's possible
to access the database remotely with FM Pro 5.5..it may just be a matter
of confuguring your sharing preferences, ect .but if not I'm sure the FM
Server product will allow you to do this.
