Useful Thing-

THE Rename

This is one of those programs you think you'll never need... until you need it.
"THE Rename" makes changing mass file names and file extensions customizable and easy
to do.
Yes, the program hasn't been updated since the beta v1.7 released in 12-1999 but it
works so well I
don't see any reason for concern.

Here are the features, quoted from the website; it's a long list-
"Rename files and folders
Rename pictures with their width and height
Rename MP3 files
Possibility to remove multiple spacing in names
Supports long file names
Works separately on either the prefix or the extension
Add a counter to the end, at the beginning or replace the prefix and/or extension (in
decimal,
hexadecimal or octal)
Convert the prefix and/or extension to lower case, upper case or capitalize the
filename
Invert the letters in the prefix and/or extension, replace the filename with system
date or time,
the file's date or time, or both
Toggle case
Replace the prefix with the file's content
Search and replace text
Call the program from Windows Explorer with a right click
Delete the extension
Supports drag and drop with Windows Explorer
Keep track of your 20 favorite directories
Contextual menu to open, delete, print selection
Predefine extensions to select files
