Hi Matthias..
A very cool one...!
Thx for sharing ...
Ouch.. and yes Lat mapping can be a test for ones patience.. =)
(Maybe a good thing to share the actual prj.. for ppl that might not have
the patience to lat map themselves..)
Good then that the actual render was fast... ! (other times the actual
process takes short time and renders takes an eternity..=)
btw.. Wonder how it would be if one animated a Cylinders length by a color
or so... then spread out copies of this cylinder and used an animated image
that then control the influence of those.., to get similar result as in your
anim...
Even.. one could use a cloud of 2D particles.. and use my above approach..
hmm
If working, it would be a fast n easy way...(getting by the lat map
process..)
Take Care
Best Regards

Some short anim:
www.the-final.com/nails.avi
(4,5 mb XVid)
~12000 nails...
(mapped on a nurbs-mesh,
then simply used a point displacer)
Mapping process time was 30minutes.... :-o
Rendertime 24seconds per frame with
4 motionblur samples :-)
