Indeed you must have, as this was announced loud and clear. We are feature-aligning the CE and EE and try to retain only feature differences that are relevant for companies that can and should afford a Magnolia subscription. Workflow, Multiple Subscribers and Multi-Site are the main features we deem EE only. We make these changes as we develop new or different versions of the specific functionality.
On the positive side, we have added categorization, imaging and commenting as well as many other features from EE to CE with the 4.5 release. From the feedback we got, for most community members the benefits outweigh the drawbacks. Granted, this was not an easy decision, because as you rightly pointed out multiple subscribers has been a CE feature for a while. But to provide an Enterprise experience for that, the EE has a much more elaborate mechanism that ensures the subscribers stay in sync. In other words, what the CE did provide in terms of multiple subscribers was not sufficient and could cast a bad light on the product, because it was not clear that thius aspect works better in the EE. Finally, we did have to rewrite a lot of the activation stuff, as there are security issues with anything prior to 4.4, so with 4.5 you get a new, improved and secure activation mechanism, albeit for only one public instance (i.e. subscriber) in the CE. Long story short, this step has clarified the feature differences and makes it more likely that those who need Enterprise functionality actually pay for the software development.
