You can do what you want in HTML for the content. This email is pretty 
basic but it allows me to validate some workflow tickets thanks to email 
parsers.
All the code parts that are made like that:
${this.variable}
are freemarker parts. They are replaced by a value find in the context.

For your information and if you're interested, you can develop a command 
that will send email by instanciating a class to set the differents 
variables of the freemarker email code.

Hi list and magnolians,

I don't know on which version you're working but for my parts I'm 
curtrently working with rc1 and I manage to send emails.
To do so, put the parameter "mailTemplate" in the workflow context. This 
parameter reference a mail template under this path:
/modules/mail/config/templates/YourTemplate.
In this template you can define different parameter as the body path for 
freemarker email, from parameter...

If you have some more specific questions don't hesitate.

Hi,

I would also like the activation workflow to include sending emails to
people of a certain role/group.

If anyone has this working I would really like to hear how you went
about it.

Hello all, 

apologies for harassing you all recently but the project is nearing
completion so we are trying to resolve all the little issues we have at
present

we are trying to set up workflow emailing but none of the emails ever
seem to get sent. we see no errors in the logs relating to openwfe 

we have slightly altered the basic workflow, basically just uncommenting
the email section so it reads:

  <process-definition name="to-publisher">
    <sequence>
         <set field="mailTo" value="group-publisher"/>
        <set field="mailTemplate" value="simonsWorkflowTemplate"/>
        <participant ref="command-sendMail"/>
    <participant ref="group-publisher"/>
    </sequence>
  </process-definition>

i have created a node under modules > mail > config > templates called
'simonsWorkflowTemplate' with the values:

body > url + withparams.html
from > my email address
subject > some subject
type > text

but we are unsure as to what we really need to do here. 

any help greatly appreciated
