Okay, I found this http://blogs.sun.com/moazam/entry/why_can_t_i_allocate about the issue. Our OS is 32-bit Windows Server 2003 so is limited in the amount of contiguous memory we can allocate.
Would magnolia running on a 64-bit system be able to utilize the extra address space correctly - are there considerations beyond just installing a 64-bit jvm?
