I experienced the same with Debian on an AMD64 (Etch host + Sid guest),
Glibc is 2.3.6.ds1 for both of them. UML was 2.6.17.maybe-9.

Unfortunately I can't add much more as I don't have that amd64 laptop
anymore but the problem seems really TLS related as apache2 with the
threaded worker segfaulted while the prefork worker was running just
fine.
