Especially when I'm reading the mailing list on my small screen hand-held ;) - actually I already have my mail reader window maximized on 1280xwhatever and sometimes it's still not wide enough.
The most infuriating ones are "DO NOT REPLY [Bug 277705]: New bla bla " from Apache's bugzilla.

I also subscribe to several lists from apache.org, and they don't follow this pattern. Given that all the mailing lists at apache.org are run by the same program and none of the other lists have the list name in the title, this might not be easy/possible - either from a technical or policy point of view. Take a look at the headers from any mail off this list: there are several list specific values which uniquely identify this list, including the List-Id:"Ant Users List" <user.ant.apache.org> which you can use to filter (move into a common folder).

Fair enough for the spam filtering. But what about the contextual info it provides to ease the human filtering?
After sorting the mails into a "Ant User List" folder the context is clear. I don�t have to think about that. All I do is deleting mails which topic (subject) is not in my interests.
