I have some sites that started out under 1.4 and migrated up to
8.09.current. I also have sites that migrated from 1.8 to 10.05.5 (using
openpsa as framework, not midgard_mvc), but they didn't migrate in one
go, but when the respective releases came out. Doing a migration from
1.6 to 10.05 in one go is next to impossible I guess, or at least not
worth the effort, unless you have hundreds of completely identical sites
you want to migrate.

The other problem is that AFAIK there is no real equivalent to aegir in
the frameworks that work with midgard2. openpsa has asgard and the
on-site administration, which can sort of fill the gap, but I remember
that when we migrated a page from 1.4 to 2.6 (i.e. from Aegir to
MidCOM), the customers were really disappointed by the new admin
interface. Since then, some years have passed and the midcom
toolbar/asgard system has gotten better, but people used to aegir will
still miss quite a few things.

Bye,

Andreas
