Henri,
I would advice against manually installing anything outside Eclipse p2
update manager. You can easily break consistency of the installation.

Yes, this is one of possible solutions. We'd still have to replace "include
specific version of draw2d/zest" with "require draw2d/zest open version
range" in POM editor feature.
