Hi,
the discussions about if there should be "flat screens", "Linux or Win
boxes" etc indicate that you haven't read what I've said before:
My non-profit company GAIA eV (http://www.gaia.de) which is located
in Stuttgart is willing to lend basic hardware for the Midgard
booth (Linux Server Box, Dualboot WIn 98 /Linux AMDK6/II Work-
stations) free of charge.
IF I will get midgard to work soon (I still need help, see thread
"Re: [midgard-user] missing config.h in midgard-php4-1.4.1-7!!!" dd.
18.4.01), I am willing to do SOME on-site coordination concerning
the hardware and so on. I live close to Stuttgart, so it
is not a major problem for me to visit the "real" people.
I would recommend a general setup like this:
- Local Network 10 MB twisted pair
- 1 x Linux Server with Apache + Midgard + MySQL
- 3 Workstations from @gaia.de (Dual Win/Linux, 17 " CRT)
- other hardware should be connected through the LAN, 4 x 10 MB twisted
pair lines are left
More than 4 workstations for the audience are too much, this is not the
CEBIT. And keep in mind that you need a minimum of one person per
workstation to serve the audience. The less personnel you have, the
less workstations are needed.
If Linuxtage organisators provide Internet Access (Do they? Who knows?),
I would prefer to connect the server to it too, through the second
ethernet card (100 MB 3Com) so that it could also serve as a router.
Midgard Demo could be provided from the server OR the Internet,
as you like. Really needed is a good beamer (800x600 minimum),
as I can only offer an older 480x640 LCD overhead
display which is not bright enough for a larger audience.
I would like to have an OK for this from all of you. Let me stress
once more: I am willing to put some time into that project, but ONLY
if I can get midgard to work SOON here, hopefully with your help ;-).
